Intelligent Machinery Noise Free-For-All

What?
Intelligent Machinery is now hosting a Monthly Internet Collaboration Noise Free-For-All concert event. This event is open to the public for all interested noise, dark ambient, electroacoustic and abstract sound dabblers who want to participate in a live improvised collaboration of sound.
he didn't even need pants

why get dressed up to go out and play when you can play at home?
Why?
To provide a forum of experimentation that allows musicians the world over the opportunity to collaborate in a live event with other artists without the hinderances of traditional live performance. To make giant walls of noise with the aid of other anti-music miscreants from the comfort of your own house. To hone your improvisational chops and learn to explore new methods of creating sound. Put simply - to rock out without having to put on pants and pack up your gear. Have a drink, fire up the rig and have fun.
Where?
Historically these events have been preceeded and followed by an informal chat in the #musika room on efnet. This is not required and anyone is allowed to participate in the concert regardless of their appearance in the chat room. We just use the chat as a convenient meeting place before the action takes place. Its the "Green Room", if you will. For those of you who aren't fluent in IRC or those who don't have IRC clients, the Chat link located in the blue box to the left will take you to a chat applet that connects to the #musika room for your chatting pleasure. Be sure to read the directions on the page

dear friend Wayne
How?
Months ago when we first attempted this my dear friend Wayne of FERALCATSCAN introduced me to a fantastic tool known as NINJAM. NINJAM is designed specifically to allow musicians to "jam" over the internet. It works by connecting to a central server and sending a stream of your audio to the server where its then rebroadcast to everyone else connected to that server. You, in turn, hear the streams of everyone else connected to the server.

Getting Started

If
you want to participate in the Montly Noise Free-For-All you'll first need the NINJAM Client which you can download at the link above.

After you install the client you can configure your audio settings to system specific settings and set up your local channels. When you're ready to connect click File -> Connect and in the "Connect to Host" box you'll put the server to which you wish to connect (will be announced prior to concert per event) and the username you want others to see once you've connected.

Then hit "Connect" and prepare for the noise.
Listening In

Currently
the only way to listen to the live performance as its happening is by connecting to the NINJAM server with the client software.

This doesn't mean you have to participate - you don't even have to transmit a signal - but it does mean that you'll need to have bandwidth capable of handling the amount of incoming streams being generated by the performers.

Typically this is not a problem for 256k DSL and better, but our friends still on dial-up most likely will not be able to attend.

There will be a podcast of the event available after-the-fact for those unable to attend the performance.
